Six Sigma Black Belt FedEx

•Situation: 1-800 Contacts was a multi million dollar account for FedEx. They shipped roughly 4,000 packages per day. The process was time consuming and expensive as a single package was picked up roughly 18 different times before it was loaded into a “can” (silver box in picture above) and then onto our planes bound for Memphis.
•Task: Reduce Takt Time, eliminate bottlenecks and touch times. Reduce the number of people needed to process a package.
•Action: Engineered portable platforms that allowed the cans to be delivered directly to the 1-800 facility. Packages were then scanned and immediately loaded onto a can bound for the FedEx hub in Memphis.
•Result: Handling of a single package went from 19 employees to 5. Solution saved FedEx $1,200 per day.
